March Sublime released on Sunnyside Records

Contemporary big band music is music made primarily for the sheer enjoyment of it. There will likely be little remuneration and it will take a lot of work and time. To make a successful big band there has to be a sense of community and enthusiasm for the music. Trombonist/composer Alan Ferber has created a band of friends who play his daring music with an unmatched energy and grace. This dynamism and rapport is in full display on Alan Ferber Big Band’s new recording, March Sublime. Visit Sunnyside records here

Alan Ferber Wins New Jazz Works Commissioning Grant

Chamber Music America (CMA), the national network for ensemble musicians, has announced the recipients of its 2013 commissioning grants, supporting the creation of new works for small ensembles. CMA will distribute $421,950 to 19 ensembles through two of its major grant programs: New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development, supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and Classical Commissioning, supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.  The grantees in each program were selected by independent peer panels this spring. For more information, click here.
