From where I sit, it’s an interesting list. Of course, a lot of great music was overlooked as usual, but so too was Chick Corea’s release of this year, The Vigil. For decades, Corea has been a Grammy favourite, to the extent that at last year’s competition, Corea was competing against himself in two categories. I’m glad to see that the nominators have an ear for some music out of Brooklyn, such as the big band recordings of Darcy James Argue and Alan Ferber and Donny McCaslin’s Casting For Gravity CD. Also, if I were Mack Avenue Records, I’d be jumping up and down.
